This Woman’s Fly Fishing Journey

I do have a passion for the outdoors. And, one of the most attractive draws to the outdoors is water. Whether a river, small stream or lake, I end up beside it eventually. I believe my very first outdoor memory is hiking up Mount Damavand in Iran, when I was very young, with my dad and always stopping by the river’s edge to cool off our faces. I joyfully equate good times with outdoor celebrations near the water’s edge. Whether with family or good friends, I have many pleasant memories while hiking, exploring or fly fishing rivers and lakes.

Which leads to fly fishing. I am enthralled with fly fishing and all it has to offer. From the serenity on the water, to bringing a fish in, the bugs and even the frustration of tying a blood knot. If you would have asked me three years ago if I would be chest deep into this past time, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Today I belong to two fly fishing clubs. I have had many outings with friends, family or on my own. I love to volunteer for anything fly fishing or fish related. I have taken two casting classes and one fly tying class. I have met so many kind people. I believe it goes back to the fact I love to explore the outdoors, especially around water. Thank you Dad.

Fly fishing not only puts me into a sense of calm serenity, but adds the element of excitement when you present the fly and suddenly feel the tug.

Bringing the fish to my hand is magical, reverential. I wish somehow everyone had something or someone to share a magical moment of serenity with, whatever it may be. For me it is feet in the water, fly rod in hand, watching and listening.

With fly fishing, there is much to learn. It keeps the mind active. Planning trips, anticipation, road trips, sorting gear, tying flies, visiting a fly shop and yes reading fly fishing blogs is all part of the enjoyment.
