Burlesque…. interesting

This weekend Maddy talked me into renting Burlesque 2010 featuring Cher and Cher and Christina Aguilera.  I was hesitant as I thought it would be a corny movie with lots of drama etc.  Which actually it was, but since I went in knowing that was the case the movie was okay to watch.  I was surprised that Aguilera was able to do some sort of acting and she looked damn good in the movie.  Cher looks damn good too, but that could be all of the plastic surgery she has had…not sure.

Definitely a movie that you don’t need to use your brain in, because you will know the story line, you will know the outcome, but the singing and dancing is fun to watch.  Sort of reminded me of Chicago.

The history of burlesque shows as described in Wikipedia is interesting and makes me wish to see one someday.

TWO Seperate Movies ~ ONE Same Theme (Marriage)

So this weekend I have watched many movies…but two that I rented are Crazy Stupid Love with a huge cast of great beautiful players…. Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling,  Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marissa Tomei and Kevin Bacon…  A story of a couple deciding to divorce (Steve-Julianne) and the other cast of characters play into the pieces oddly.  My youngest daughter wanted to rent this movie~although she had seen it before, but she wanted me to see.

Last night I rented Two for the Road Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney about a young couple going through the different cycles of life together, and it comes down to what they want to do in the end.  End their marriage, or continue to work and keep it alive.  Audrey Hepburn is one of my favorite Actress’, but I didn’t particularly care for her role in this movie with Albert Finney.  Maybe because it was not the usual love story, but at the same time it brought out her character as I have seen her before in many other movies.  Not a big Finney fan, and this movie didn’t change my mind.

Going through a divorce almost two years ago now…these movies brought to my mind- young love (as I was) Married at 18.  Children and how they can be a force as to what decision you make or do not make.   Mid life crisis…. it happens to many of us – men and women alike.  Is Love as strong as portrayed in both of these movies… to withstand affairs, midlife crisis, hurt, abuse and children.

Was probably not the best choice of movies for me this weekend for many reasons, but definately a one time must watch for both of these.  Somewhat realistic and somewhat NOT…. Ryan Gosling, Marissa Tomei, Kevin Bacon still very good and good looking…. Audrey Hepburn skinny but beautiful as always.  Classic beauty forever in my mind.

DAMSEL LADIES….good support

This is my second year with the Damsel Fly group~ and I have to say it has grown into a lovely support and very fun group of women. Last night, I was not feeling up to going anywhere after a busy week of volleyball~but happily I went to my Damsel group meeting. Always the first Thursday of each month. Last night we had a lot to cover in the meeting~ New President, New Vice President, New Treasurer elections and happy to say I wasn’t elected for any of the above, although I would have stepped up to the plate if truly needed.

This group of ladies, mostly older than I have a lot to offer in life lessons, support and knowing how to smile and have fun. We laughed a lot during our meeting last night, and it was refreshing. We talked about past fishing trips of the summer and discussed future fishing trips. And some upcoming casting lessons for new women in the group. I am very excited about the direction our club has taken.

If you have a network of ladies-or men you can join in your community it is definitely worth while. Good for the mind, soul and heart.
