Oysters Galore

friday night we ventured into Chinatown looking for a place to eat.  Walking up the street Alan says, “I wonder if Dan and Louis oyster bar is still around the corner”. Sure enough.  His parents went there in the 20’s, he had eaten there several times, but not in the last twenty years.

Walking in, it’s warm and fun.  You see old pictures everywhere, old light fixtures and we get greeted by a waitress who has basically worked there all her life.  She introduced us to the fourth generation of Louis who now owns/runs the restaurant.  Showed us this old cistern from the 1800’s that was in the bar now covered with glass so you can look down this cavern and see a skeleton at the bottom.  The waitress ordered her recommended half dozen oysters on the half shell.  Not a big oyster eater, but had two.  Then Oyster Rockefeller which were yummy.  But the topper of the evening was this sautéed prawn dish that she recommended.  Never have I tasted more delectable delicious large almost lobsteresque smothered in a bueree blanc and served with squash and zucchini.
