My dear friend Darlene passed away last night. All of us Damsels had united to make her a book and bring her meals for the next two weeks just about an hour before we got the news. It is so very sad, but I know that it is a blessing that she can be at peace with her husband and hopefully fishing together in a wild river.
Received this email a few hours ago from a fellow Cascade Member and it is so on point to the woman she was.
I am sorry to inform all of you that our dear friend and member of CFF, Darlene, passed away last night. Darlene had battled lung cancer and had come out on top, but then when she was diagnosed with brain cancer, the fight became too hard. Many of you knew Darlene, and those of you that didn’t know her well, will always remember her quick and welcoming smile. Darlene was a past president of Cascade Family Flyfishers, a Member of the Year and also a member of the Damsel Flies and McKenzie Fly Fishers. She was a volunteer with ODFW outdoor Education, as well as serving on their advisory committees, and Thurston Middle School Outdoor School, teaching so many young people to fish, enjoy and appreciate the outdoors. We will miss this beautiful, vibrant lady, but know that she has touched so many individuals with her knowledge and love of fishing and the outdoors.
So sorry for your loss.
Big community loss. But hope she is in a bright place. Thanks naomi
I’m sorry. Saying goodbye is never easy. I suspect there really is fishing in heaven.
Thank you I hold onto that hope
So sorry to read of your friend’s passing. May she rest in peace.
I am sorry – it is hard – I don’t know what to say!
Thank you. Not much to say
My condolences Maryam.
A very heavy heart Maryam June. She was a blessing to you when you needed it most. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire you.
Yes I know you understand how much she meant to me. I only can hope I can someday shine as bright as she did for me. Thank you
I’m very sorry for the loss of your great friend! But in answer to your question, I think if there’s a heaven, it could only qualify as heaven by being exactly what we love and long for the most, so I’m quite sure she’s boating, running the rapids, and fishing to her heart’s content now that her battling days are over.
Peace to you, Maryam.
xo,
Kathryn
